Julie Goodway - Senior Solicitor

I advise both employers and individuals on the handling of difficult employment law situations.  I enjoy helping to get the best results for my clients, and my clients praise me resolving their work problems and making potentially complex issues easy deal with and understand.

For businesses (whether large or small), I provide advice on restructures, redundancies, disciplinaries, grievances, dismissals, performance management, handling ill health and managing exits.  I also advise on the implications of TUPE.  Drafting tailored policies and contracts, including ways to protect your business, are other ways in which I assist my clients.

For employees, I advise on discrimination matters, the handling of disciplinaries and capability hearings, as well as how to bring an effective grievance.  I also review contractual terms and the enforceability of restrictive covenants.

I frequently advise on settlement agreements.  My clients recommend me for doing so in a straightforward manner and also for negotiating beneficial terms. My background means that I am a skilled negotiator. I worked for many years for the British Medical Association representing and negotiating on behalf of General Practitioners on contractual and employment-related issues.  As a result I am well-placed to assist my clients in negotiating good settlement terms.  I have achieved increased compensation payments for clients who have been offered settlement agreements as well as those settling existing Employment Tribunal claims.

I also enjoy providing in-house training on employment law – whether for a small or a larger audience.  My training has received acclamation from delegates for being interesting, informative, interactive and, most importantly, fun!

Work Highlights

Negotiating a severance package equal to three times’ the employee’s salary.

Drafting tailored contracts and a handbook for a start-up education company.

Advising an employer on the handling of a potentially difficult disciplinary process for several employees, which resulted in the employees’ exit without the need for a settlement and without any Employment Tribunal claims being brought.

Clients

My clients are from a range of sectors including: healthcare, education, IT, finance, entertainment, construction, facilities management, legal, retail and charities.

Outside of work

I love travelling and experiencing different cultures, although having a new puppy may hamper this in the future.  I also enjoy dancing, dining and theatre (not necessarily in that order).
