Nick Hine - Principal
I have specialised in employment law for over 24 years and advise both businesses and senior individuals.
I have had a varied career which commenced in merchant banking before becoming a police officer in the Metropolitan Police in London for seven and a half years. During this time I completed a law degree and then qualified as a Barrister and practiced for a couple of years before transferring to be a Solicitor. I use this diverse experience for the benefit of clients.
I advise small to large businesses on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law issues, including High Court restrictive covenant actions; tribunal claims – complex unfair dismissal, sex, race and disability discrimination cases; redundancy and restructuring advice, outsourcing and TUPE, performance management and ill health issues.
I also advise managers and senior executives particularly in respect of their contracts of employment, negotiation of termination packages, employment tribunal claims and High Court actions.
Advising a recruitment business in respect of a team of employees setting up in competition. This involved issuing high court proceedings to obtain a court order (injunction) to require them to comply with their contractual obligations thereby preventing considerable damage to the business.
Advising a company on a major restructure which included removal of a number of individuals in the senior management team. The process resulted in successfully completing the restructure and without any employment claims.
Advising a senior individual on the terms of a service agreement and remuneration package including shares and other financial incentives when taking a prominent role.
I work with a variety of clients in all sectors including financial services, professional services, recruitment, retail, property, consulting, construction, pharmaceutical and IT.
Outside of work
I am a keen sailor and a qualified skipper, a skier (described by an Austrian as “not bad for an Englishman”) and I also enjoy golf, photography, networking and fine wine. I have four children and a house in Italy and enjoy all things Italian!
